Are N95 Masks Effective against Coronavirus?

  • 1175 views

Most surgical masks or an ordinary mask do not effectively filter small particles from the air.

Unlike an N95 type of mask that can eliminate the particles from the air that breathes through it. The N95 mask can filter out at least 95% of very small (0.3 microns) particles. It’s also capable of filtering out all types of particles, including bacteria and viruses.

An N95 mask your exposure to airborne particles, from small particle aerosols to large droplets. They should be tight-fitting to be able to filter out at least 95% of particles in the air, including large and small particles.

When it’s properly fitted and worn, minimal leakage can occur around the edges of the mask when you inhale. Almost all of the air is directed through the filter media.

Because of its high filtration capacity, a NIOSH-approved N95 mask can be very effective against coronavirus.

It would be best to purchase an N95 mask with an exhalation valve. It will provide the same amount of protection as the ones that come without a valve but an N95 mask that has an exhalation valve reduces exhalation resistance, which makes it easier to breathe and exhale with it on.

You’ll also experience better airflow with it and it will keep your face cooler and it will greatly reduce moisture build-up inside the mask.

It is advised to be discarded after use if possible especially when exposed in high-risk areas with infection. It should also be discarded when your N95 mask becomes damaged or deformed, no longer has an effective seal to the face, becomes wet or dirty, breathing becomes more difficult, and if it becomes contaminated with blood, respiratory or nasal secretions, or other bodily fluids from the outside.

We really should take our protection seriously at this time and we should invest in an N95 mask although it can a bit more costly to be assured with a maximum and superior level of protection against the dreaded coronavirus.
